Living with Tunnel Vision
Through having the opportunity to walk through the Tunnel of Oppression I noticed the controversies within American society that go unnoticed. Everyday I do not conciously think of the impact of actions although when standing back and looking at the exhibits our every move influences an aspect of the community either locally, nationally, or globally. It was unreal to see the amount of t.v. that children and adults watch. Marked and unmarked categories are often influenced by the stereotypes that mass media promotes and now looking at the statistics it is no wonder that citizens heavily rely on this power structure to make their decisions. I hope that students who attend the exhibit began to relay the message as imagine if those four hours a night were spent advocating for equality of race and gender. America would be a changed society in a postive direction and one which would welcome all regardless of intersectionality. What I have gained as a result of this exhibit is tremendous and I will use to advocate to friends the importance of daily decisions.
